3rd Annual Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction

WHAT: Join Lumana at Salty's Seafood Grill as we celebrate our second year of providing loans and business education to entrepreneurs in Ghana, West Africa. Our event will include a delicious four course dinner and drinks, live music, and keynote address from Valerie Nkamgang Bemo from Cameroon, a Senior Program Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

WHEN: Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 6:00-10:00pm

WHY: Your attendance will go towards building better systems for women in rural Ghana, West Africa to grow their businesses and save for their families future by accessing the financial services they need to thrive.

Achieving our goal will allow us to establish programs in two more villages and add 120 new clients by the end of 2011. Throughout 2012 we will work to reach new regions in Ghana scaling the strong foundation we have built in the eight coastal villages you have helped to support in
the past years. We will continue to enhance community incomes, create hundreds of new savings accounts for families living without, offer a year of leadership development classes, more than double our current client base and support the creation for hundreds of jobs in rural Ghana.

COST: $75 per ticket or $650 for a table of 10-12.

  • Wild Alaskan Salmon with white wine butter, preserved lemon, and sundried tomato
  • Angus Top Sirloin Steak with rosemary, horseradish butter, and crispy local leeks
  • Pepper Crusted Pork Chop with grain mustard demi-glace and local apple salad
  • Wild Rice Stuffed Local Squash finished with 12 year old balsamic marinated tomatoes

Valerie Nkamgang Bemo, MD, MPH, a native of Cameroon, is a senior program officer of special initiatives in the global development division at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she is responsible for the emergency response portfolio. Before joining the foundation, she held various roles at the International Rescue Committee, most recently serving as senior technical advisor for health in the Democratic Republic of Congo and West Africa. She also worked with various NGO and had extensive involvement in Aceh, Indonesia, Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Mauritania, Kenya and Chad. Dr. Bemo received her medical degree from the University of Côte d'Ivoire, her epidemiology diploma at the University of Paris, and her MPH from Madrid Autonome University.
